Smaller version of the Real Log Home

The Real Log home was 2011's most popular house and I decided to try making a smaller version of it, that will still serve to be a wonderful home for wee folk and wee creatures.  I am picturing an adorable rabbit or chipmunk for Easter morning,  arriving in this charming home! Gnomes and Fairies too.
Many times when I create something it is inspired by a piece of wood.  Then repeated pieces usually get made the same size as the first one! So like many things we have to think "outside" the box and try something new.  Our crafting and art help us grow as people  I think this product will be a nice compliment to the larger size, which is a few inches longer and taller and weighs more.  I have liked this design because it easily invites two children to play since it has multiple openings and a very natural appearance, bringing the "woods" into the home-- which we all love!
The sun is out for the first time in weeks of rain and snow, so warming and encouraging it is.  The sun is calling thoughts of Spring to come forward, which always helps the long winter, and soon, very soon, the tips of daffodils will appear .

Houses made for the Holiday Season 2011

With each coming season it is inspiring to make new things, reflecting the season and the things we love about it. These were all made of the materials I usually use, which is hand gathered Aspen that is fallen over from winds and age. The Red Top mushroom house is the first house I have introduced color to. This house was very popular!  One is in the shop now and would make a lovely Valentines gift!

Embracing the Blog!

January is a time of taking ideas & making them realities, it is the start of a new year.  Having long wanted to do a blog, I am pleased that I have gotten this year --giving thanks to the strength and courage of the mighty dragon, who is with us in 2012! A Dragon abode and Dragon to live there are very much on the "list" of new creations.
It is snowy here & the time of indoor work. I am working more with wool &  the idea of felt houses, soft and friendly for the smallest of hands to feel and play with.  I have loved felt since I was young, but have not had my hands in wool for many years & have  had to reacquaint my hands with the process , a task most enjoyable.  I have dyed my handmade felt with botanicals in a large copper bucket on the stove... a favorite kind of thing to do!  Making things from scratch, from things locally obtained,  by hand, is the most fulfilling to me.  I am going to attach pictures of my first projects. Eventually there will be felt houses the shop, but technique and design are still at work. The felt houses here are about 7.5 " tall. The lovely Gnomes come from the PaintingPixie shop on Etsy.
These houses will be primarily made from handmade & naturally dyed felt , with some over
lay of pre felt from wholesome sources.
