The Birch Tree Stump House! this house is about 12" tall and 13" wide. It was made from the idea of a
sketch I had previously done(see earlier post) and the customer decided to go with birch bark instead of something brown. It is shown with my gnomes and playmat , which are not part of the order.

The house from the front with the door closed. The door closes with a button and loop. The little mail box lid does lift up so treasures can be left inside. |
 |
The back is essentially open for playing in, like a doll house. |
 |
The house has a ladder made of applewood and felt that goes to the second story. |
This large project presented challenges and is the biggest felt item I have made. It was very complex to figure out from the beginning and took a lot of materials. I worked on over several weeks, sometimes stopping to think things through. It involves hand sewing, glueing and needle felting. It has layers applied on the outside and inside over a heavier felt base. It has different kinds of wool, silk and alpaca on it. Getting it to like like birch bark turned out to be more challenging than I expected! It took about 26 hrs. and $60 of materials. I think if I do something like this again, I will work at a smaller scale. This will be a tough act to follow though!!!
At first I thought it was made of wood, it took a second look to find out it was felt!
ReplyDeleteI think its gorgeous and well worth the work!

ReplyDeleteThis is so fabulous! It is both a work of art and a beautiful toy. Amazing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful project! It is difficult to see how felt can be turned into such a realistic item. Fabulous work! I have bookmarked your site so I can visit often.
